Slight Risk today, 3-27-10, for AR and south MO

day1probotlk_1300_torn.gifThere is a slight risk today for severe weather for AR and the southern portion of MO as a Low continues to make is way eastward. Currently the tornado risk is at 5% for much of AR.

The SPC said this: THE BEST COMBINATION OF INSTABILITY AND SHEAR WILL LIKELY EXIST OVER  CNTRL/NRN AR AND POSSIBLY INTO FAR SRN MO THIS AFTERNOON. SHEAR   PROFILES WILL FAVOR SUPERCELLS...WITH ISOLATED TORNADOES AND HAIL. SEVERE WIND GUSTS WILL ALSO BE LIKELY AS STORMS EVOLVE...POSSIBLY  MERGING INTO BOWS AS THEY APPROACH THE MS RIVER THIS EVENING.

Slight Risk, 3-10-10, for much of Miss. Valley Area

3-10-10tr.gifThere is a slight risk today for much of the Mississippi Valley area as a trough continues to make its way eastward. The tornado risk is currently at 10% for AR and MO.

The SPC said this: INCREASING  LARGE-SCALE ASCENT SHOULD SUPPORT EVENTUAL STORM DEVELOPMENT -  LIKELY FROM ERN OK/SERN KS INTO SWRN MO/WRN AR INITIALLY.  WITH AN  80 TO 90 KT SWLY MID-LEVEL JET STREAK SHIFTING ENEWD ATOP LOW-LEVEL SLYS...SHEAR SUPPORTIVE OF SUPERCELLS SUGGESTS RAPID INTENSIFICATION  OF THE DEVELOPING CONVECTION.  WHILE STORM MODE SHOULD BECOME  INCREASINGLY LINEAR LATER IN THE EVENING...CELLULAR CONVECTION IS EXPECTED INITIALLY...SUGGESTING THE POTENTIAL FOR ISOLATED  TORNADOES.  LARGE HAIL WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE...GIVEN LOW 60S  BOUNDARY LAYER DEWPOINTS BENEATH H5 TEMPERATURES AOB -20C.   OVERNIGHT...TORNADO THREAT SHOULD SLOWLY DECREASE AS STORM MODE  BECOMES MORE LINEAR...

3-8-10 Slight Risk for Texas and W. Oklahoma

3-8-10tr.gifThe storm chase season has offically begun. 3-8-10sr.gifA trough system continues to make its way eastward into the plains. It looks like there may be enough moisture in the afternoon for severe potential. As a result, there is a slight risk today for north west Texas and for western Oklahoma. The tornado risk is currently at 2% for that area. Central Texas also has a chance for some severe weather as well.

The SPC said this:

THREAT OF  SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS APPEARS TO BE WARRANTED GIVEN THE SOMEWHAT BETTER MOISTURE AND INSTABILITY THAN EARLIER EXPECTED.
THE SLIGHT RISK HAS BEEN EXPANDED SWD ACROSS WRN OK INTO NWRN TX...PRIMARILY FOR THE HAIL THREAT...HOWEVER ISOLATED SUPERCELLS ARE POSSIBLE WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR A BRIEF TORNADO AND/OR DAMAGING WINDS.
